Franz Lang was born 1956 in Munderkingen. He studied with Prof. Hermann Gschwendtner in Trossingen and München. Already as a student he won a position as timpanist and percussionist at the “Nationaltheater Mannheim “and in the same year in the “SWR-Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg”. With this orchestra he recorded about 300 CD´s, mostly of them contains music of the 20th and 21th century. As a guest he played with Berlin Philharmonic, the Gewandhaus-Orchestra, the “World Orchestra for Peace“ and many other orchestras.
He founded the German Percussion Ensemble, where he worked with composers like
K.-H. Stockhausen, W. Rihm, H.-J. Hespos, G. Grisey, P.-M. Hamel etc.
He played as soloist with his orchestra and many years with the „ensemble 13“ and with various chamber ensembles, also as their conductor.
As a teacher he started at the University of Music in Saarbrücken from 1980-86, also one year in Freiburg/Breisgau and since 1987 at the University of Music in Trossingen. His Percussion Department got international reputation because his students hold positions in many first grade symphony orchestras in Germany, for example in the Berlin Philharmonic, the SWR-Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg, hr-orchestra and the opera orchestras in Frankfurt, Köln, Dortmund, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Kiel, Darmstadt and others.
The percussion ensemble and soloists of his class won several prices in national and international competitions.
