Prof. WOlfgang Guggenberger, TrUmpet

Prof. Wolfgang Guggenberger was born in 1957 in Sonthofen/Bavaria. He was 1st prize-winner at the federal competition „Jugend musiziert“ (Music by Young People) and won the “European Prize” of national contests. In 1978 he distinguished himself as a prize-winner at the renowned “Deutscher Musikwettbewerb” (German Musical Competition).

Numerous scholarships and cultural supportive prizes accompany the career of Wolfgang Guggenberger, who graduated with distinction from the Munich Richard-Strauss-Conservatory (teacher: Rolf Quinque) and the State College of Music Trossingen (teacher: Prof. Horst-Dieter Bolz). Intensive studies of two years duration in Chicago with Prof. Vincent Cichowicz, Adolph Herseth and Arnold Jacobs for him were forward-looking and formative in artistic terms.

 As a member of the roll of selected artists of “German Music Council” Wolfgang Guggenberger played as a soloist with numerous renowned German orchestras.

As a soloist and lecturer Wolfgang Guggenberger toured most European countries, as well as Georgia, Russia, Latvia, Estonia, South East Asia the USA and Mexico.

Besides many broadcast recordings Wolfgang Guggenberger released three CDs with solo- and chamber music.

2004 he published his Studies for 1 or 2 Trumpets “BASICS PLUS” (Rundel, Music Publications), which have become standard repertoire of brass pedagogy.


Wolfgang Guggenberger was lecturer for trumpet and the head of the brass and percussion department of the Richard-Strauss-Conservatory in Munich from 1986 – 2005.

In 2005 he was appointed professor of trumpet at the Musikhochschule Trossingen in the Black Forest. In this position he is also head of the institude “Positively Brass&Percussion”, which hosts the “Positively Brass&Percussion Symposium” since 2015 and is conducting the Trossingen-Trumpet-Ensemble. Since 2018 he has also been a visiting professor at the Norwegian Music Academy in Oslo.
